Celebrate!

Because I love you, Ry, I think that, for your birthday, you deserve this delicious drink: ZOMBIE BRAIN SHOT

-       Fill a shot glass halfway with peach schnapps.

-       Gently pour Bailey's Irish Cream on top.

-       After the shot is almost full, carefully add a small amount of blue curacao.

-       After it settles, add a small splash (or a few drops) of grenadine syrup.

-       Enjoy with Katy!

Birthday wishes

I can't believe we're 30 already. I hope you keep getting better each year like you have for the 28 I've know you.

-Joe Pluim

On Your Birthday...

I hope you get all the things you love the most!

(By which I mean, bikes, beer and zombies. Obviously.)

You’re my FAVORITE!

Random bday thoughts from the Burnhams!

Happy bday Ryan!

We were looking for some cool event to share that also happened on your bday 30 years ago but alas, all was quiet......Sorry.  But it must have meant that your bday was the only real cool thing that happened.  Even more of a reason to celebrate!  Music-wise, that song "Jack and Diane" was number 2 on the hit list.  It's still cool.... :)

When we told Maddi it was your birthday, she said, "Oh, that's a big number!  How much does grandpa weigh?"  Gotta love random thoughts of 3 year olds!

Hey!  Remember that time when we were camping and Ryan tried to walk his beer and drink Mighty Mouse? Oh, wait, was that from the drinking game after Maddi went to bed??.   Mighty Mouse is still tramutized but since you're her favorite person ever and it is your birthday, she said we can share the picture.

Anyways.... Enjoy your bday!  The 30's are a great time and we're glad to get to share it with you!

Your friends,
Cindy, Chris and Maddi

Happy 30th Little Brother

Dear Ryan,
Time flies. It seems like only yesterday when we used to go to the pool and you would fearlessly jump from the side into the pool where I with outstretched arms would catch you. It made me proud how unafraid you were at two and a half to three years old. You were a blast. All of my friends liked you even though you looked like Cowboy Bob Orton. All of the games of "punch" with the couch cushions, and gunfights with banana guns. So much fun. Great times! Memories that will last a lifetime.
Then, you were older, a pre-teeen and then a teenager. You were still pretty fearless. Skateboarding as much as you could, road lugeing down the hill, and basketball on the deck were pretty common. We went to some great DMB concerts. You grew into a pretty cool kid. A brother to be proud of. I think I did not like myself back then so I was always expecting you turn into someone I did not like. At the same time I always tried to keep tabs on you through friends from Sonoma hoping that you did not make some of the same stupid mistakes I did. To my joy, you didn't. The feedback I always got was that you were great, and I agreed. Everyone liked you at school and work. Little by little my fears started to subside.
Its weird that since I lived back and forth so much I have to jump so far ahead each time. Fast forward to the last few years. It has been so good to spend time with you although the times are few and far between. I wish we saw more of each other, but am grateful for the times we are together. It has been nice becoming close with family the last few years. It is something I always wanted, but felt was out of reach for me. Boy was I wrong. I look forward to each big holiday, as I know that it means we will be together again. People are getting old, and it is nice for us all to be together.
You have done good in building a life for yourself. You have a great wife, and someday you may even have a child or children. I hope so. Sam needs a little cousin out here to play with. If you like what you are doing keep at it. If you do not find what you really want to do and bust your ass. Things get better at thirty, but forty is just around the corner. I wasted a lot of my adult life, and want better for you. Do not worry I am not criticizing your life, I am just trying to make a point. It really helps to be doing something you love to do. I am grateful for the success that I have had in such a short time, but am also incredibly fortunate that things have happened the way they have.
Man, this is not so festive sounding is it. Anyway, I love you man and wish the best for you. For me turning thirty was lots of fun. I hope you party like a rock star, and am bummed that you are not coming up here to let us celebrate with you. Everything in life gets better the older you get, at least for me it has. I truly hope that you enjoy your birthday. Now go get your drink on!!! You only turn thirty once!

Feliz Treinta Años Señor Tibbs!

Amigo,

It has been a profound pleasure to be a part of your life for the past 6 years (yikes! we REALLY are getting old)!!! We've had some great times on motorcycles, bicycles, watching X-files or playing Trivial Pursuit, and I look forward to continuing the memories with you and Claudia!

I recently read a rather "interesting" quote that I want to share with you:

"The only time you really live fully is from thirty to sixty. The young are slaves to dreams; the old, servants of regrets. Only the middle aged have all their five senses in the keeping of their wits." Hervey Allen

Wishing you the best always,

Birthday story for Ryan's Birthday Blog.

Dear Ryan,
Thirty years old, can that be? Why it was just last week wasn't it that we were sitting on your parents deck looking up that the powder blue clouds with their edges sun tinged in pink and vermillion.

"Ryan, see how those clouds are glowing like fire? You know why that is don't you?"

"Because the sun is setting?"  You said quite sure of the fact.

"Well that is what most people think. Look at this." I showed you my dragon and moonstone ring. "This is a magic ring. You see the fire in the clouds is not the sun but the glow from flying dragons that live in the sky. They are breathing fire to warm the clouds against the oncoming cold night. It will be nice and cozy so they can sleep up there on the downy clouds in comfort all night."

At this point your eyes were the widest I had ever seen them.   "This ring is magic too. It can make the dragons come down from the sky and fly over us."

     "Make them come down!"

Oh dear, now I had painted myself in a corner with the brightest eight year old I had ever met. Usually Tibbs men don't fall for fairy tales. They are a pretty practical bunch… but this one had a little dreamer inside of him that I had woken up with my story.

"Um…well that wouldn't be a good idea. You are only supposed to call them in an emergency and besides they are getting ready for bed."

"They won't mind and we can play with them. They like you Mike and I know they won't mind."

"No I don't think it would be smart. They are kind of cranky at this time of the day and if I called them and there was noting wrong. Well they might get mad and blow a ball of fire over the tops of the trees and set the house on fire…. Maybe next time I come to visit we can use the magic ring."

   "Okay, Mike, next time."

And for the next two years every time I came to visit you asked me to make the dragons come down to play. And each time I had to find a reason whey they couldn't come….

Well, now that I no longer have the ring and YOU do…. I can come clean… You see Ryan…there ARE dragons up there in the clouds. But I didn't know the magic words I needed to say to call them out of the sky. But you know what?  I bet you do know the right words. It has something to do with never loosing that little eight year old dreamer who believes in magic.

Happy Birthday my dear friend.

Love,
"Uncle" Mike

Happy Birthday Ryan!

Welcome to the 30's! They are good years. You know enough about the world to take things less seriously, trust yourself and appreciate the everyday people and things you enjoy. At the same time, you still have enough stamina for new experiences and fun times! Salud to more good years ahead!
Feliz cumpleanos,
Jennifer Matlock

30 Really?

Just think when you were born we didn’t have a computer, cell phone, video camera, or cable TV. You didn’t have a video game and had to rely on board games. You always liked music and one of your first cassettes was by Paula Abdul. He-man, Thundercats and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were up there with your favorite cartoons. Movies that you loved as a little boy were The Never Ending Story, Mannequin, and who could forget Weird Science. Skateboarding was your sport of choice where you spent many, many hours practicing Ollies, Aerials, Slides and Grinds.

So many memories and so many more ahead.

Attached is a collage of photos from your early years.  Enjoy your very special 30th Birthday

We love you!
